Construction has begun on a Heritage Log Home delivered by Heritage Log Homes of the North Carolina Triangle. The site development was performed by Broyhill Wiles Developing and the construction will be completed by Broyhill Wiles Log and Timber Frame Builders. The detached garage was completed first; take a look at the garage construction pictures below the house pictures.

The homesite is located on Wade Harris Road two miles north of Silk Hope in the Siler City area in Chatham County......What a view! The size of the garage is 24'x38' with a bonus room above and a shop in the back. The log home will be created from white pine logs, heavy timber roof system and a Superior Walls Foundation. Pella windows and doors with a green metal roof will finish the structure.

THE SMITHVIEW LOG HOME

The ground breaking was started on a cold and snowy morning. The dirt was perfect for digging. Not too wet and not too dry. The first scoop of dirt was dug at 10:50 AM on January 22, 2009.

The foundation was prepared for Superior Walls installation. The walls were delivered on February 9, 2009.

The concrete slab was prepared on February 20th. The insulation and radiant floor heating plumbing was installed on the the 29th. Note the under slab plumbing for the lower level bathroom and the footers for carrying the weight of the house above. If you look hard, you can see the underslab electrical boxes that will be poured into the concrete.

The concrete is being poured; first the basement slab and then the patio slab. 3-11-2009

Carpentry has begun! The subfloor is installed and the ground is getting ready for the log delivery. 3-20-2009

The septic system is being installed. The tank is a two chamber 1500 gallon tank with two separate man hole covers. The septic field is 420 feet long and incorporates the Quick4 Infiltrator Equalizer Chamber System. 3-23-2009

The Heritage Log Home Delivery was right on schedule. It totaled three semi trucks and weighed a total of 62,000 pounds! Unloading went smooth. 3-24-2009

The first course of logs were put into place the next day.....everything fits great! 3-25-2009

All the logs have been stacked and the through bolts inserted. 4-7-2009

The interior framing has begun. The sun room and office have been framed. Notice the large windows to be installed in the sun room that will provide one of the best views in the house. 4-9-2009

The roof system has begun! A boom truck was brought in to place the massive center tree that is located in the Great Room as well as the rest of the ridge beams. 4-13-2009

The roof system is almost done on the main house. 5-1-2009

The carport and side entrance have been built. Both structures used heavy beams and rafters with King Posts and Struts. Notice the progression of the metal roof installation and the high efficiency Pella Windows. 6-19-2009

The Pella Windows have been installed in the Sunroom and the Office. Both of these rooms have the best views in the house. 6-22-2009

Notice the tree trunk in the middle of the house. This tree not only looks great, but it also is used as the main structural support element of the house. It holds up the single piece ridge beam that spans over fifty feet. The fire place chimney chase is framed and ready for the fireplaces. 6-30-2009

The metal roof is close to being finished. The stone work has begun on the upper chimney chase. All the log siding and exterior trim boards have been installed. 7-10-2009

The stone work on the foundation has begun and metal roof is finished. 7-20-2009

Open cell spray foam insulation was installed to the upstairs dormers and gable ends. 7-31-2009

Everything is on schedule.....drywall is installed next week. 8-24-2009

The stone work on the fireplace on the main floor is done and the lower level fireplace stone has started. The stone work is dry stack with natural stones from a quarry in the NC mountains. The mantels are wormy oak logs designed by Appalachian Design in the mountains of NC. 9-1-2009

The drywall installation has begun. 9-8-2009

Driveway pillars with lights and a security system have been installed. The same stone was installed on the piers with railroad ties being used for light hangers. 9-15-2009

The front door has been installed. There was a Log and Timber Home Show in Raleigh and Heritage Log and Timber Frame Homes had a booth. The show was a great success. 10-10-2009

The trim carpentry has begun and the heavy timber stairs are being installed. The railing was designed and delivered by Appalachian Designs, Inc. 11-12-2009

The maple cabinets and black granite as well as the painted black large kitchen island have been installed. Two sinks and a functionally designed island will enable the workspace to be optimally used. Accent lighting, which includes hanging lights as well as track lighting, illuminate the open space. January, 2010.

The adjoining family room with fireplace has been painted a warm beige color and track lighting illuminates the room. Off the kitchen is the utility room, which has been finished with maple cabinetry and black granite counters. Large pantry style cabinets will allow for plentiful storage. The washer and dryer will be installed in this space as well. January, 2010.

Maple cabinetry and black granite counters continue into the Master Bath, which includes a travertine tub surround with contrasting slate inlays. Twelve inch porcelain tiles cover the Master Bath floor. January, 2010.

The travertine tiles with slate inlays continue into the Master Bath shower, a large space that includes the seating area highlighted below. January, 2010.

The stairway leading from the main level to the lower level is complete and the warm beige color of the main level transitions to a light earthy green color. January, 2010.

The lower level bath has been designed with maple cabinetry and black granite counters, unifying the finishes chosen for the house. Travertine tiles in the shower, bath and on the floors beautifully finish the room. January, 2010.

Closets in the lower level bedrooms have been trimmed with shelving and hanging storage. January, 2010.

Perma-chink "Dark Honey" stain has been applied to the exterior logs. Note: Perma-chink "Light Honey" stain was applied to the interior logs. January, 2010.

The oak hardwood floors have been sanded, prepped and stained. February, 2010.

The Knotty Alder front door has been finished and stained. February, 2010.

The half bath vanity is one of the homeowner's old dressers, transformed. The sink is a semi-vessel copper sink (part above and part below the plane of the granite) with an oil rubbed bronze faucet. The pillar style lights illuminate the 18 foot tall half bath ceiling.
